Preparing for a new year 🍎

It’s about a week before school begins and now is the perfect time to start adjusting our children’s sleep schedules if they got off track during summer break. It helps to start going to bed thirty minutes to an hour earlier each subsequent night this week and in turn, waking up earlier. This will help make that first day less jarring and more predicated on a child’s natural biorhythms.

If your child is starting a new school or will have a new routine, it can help to have a rehearsal or trial run of the new routine. For younger ones, writing a story script to read out loud the days preceding can really help with the normal anxiety that comes from the first day of school.

Finally, be sure to check your school’s COVID protocols as they will differ by region and district. Demonstrate calmness but normalize first day anxieties. Best wishes to students everywhere as we start afresh with new teachers, lessons, and friends. We hope you are able to start the new year with a sense that “All things are possible.” Much love. 🍎
